You are invited to a paintout at Green Lawn Cemetery on Saturday, September 6, 2008. You can arrive anytime and depart anytime during their open hours (7am to 7pm) and you don't need to come just on this day. As I mentioned earlier in the year (of course you remember) they are having two contests this year. First is the continuing photography contest. They award cash prizes for first, second, and third place and there is no cost to enter.
 
But most important to other artists is an additional contest for paintings in any media. The expectation is to also have cash prizes and exhibit opportunities. While there is nothing yet posted on their website (that I could find) about this contest I was assured by the volunteer coordinator, Sandi Lattimer,  that the contest is on and that we are all invited to come paint and photograph the unique art and architecture that is Green Lawn Cemetery.
 
Also note that on each first Saturday of a month, they have a special program. On Saturday, September 6, the program begins at 11am in the chapel.

Steve Daoust, who owns a house in Olde Town East, did a title search and discovered that the original owner of his home, Alexis Keeler, is buried at Green Lawn. Daust will share his experiences of how he came upon the information and what he plans to do with it. He will also lead a visit to the Keeler burial site.
 
Go to the Green Lawn website for more information. Bring your lunch or venture out to a local food joint (not far from High Street and Greenlawn Ave. which is just south of German Village). There are restrooms in the chapel. Bring your bug spray. It's a pretty quiet place as you might imagine.
 
Green Lawn Cemetery is located at 1000 Greenlawn Ave., Columbus, OH 43223. Greenlawn Avenue is exit 105 off Interstate 71 just South of Columbus. When exiting, Green Lawn Cemetery is west of the highway. The gates to Green Lawn are open 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM November through April and 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM May through October. The office is open 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday and 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturdays (except holidays). [Just be careful if you come south on SR315 and try to exit at Greenlawn Ave. - you have to skate across two lanes of merging traffic.]
