WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Winners were honored at the Worthington Area Art League's Spring Show Artists' Reception Sunday, April 18 at the Anthem Gallery.

As artists we look carefully, and form our vision through our unique lenses. We wonder “what if” and we create work to interpret what we see and feel so that viewers can “see what we mean.”

From the 88 entries in the Spring Anthem Show I have selected pieces that resonate for me. I have chosen work that challenged the artist, used the medium particularly well and resulted in personal expression. These expressions varied widely. Some work, for example Pat Rhoad’s Ciao, was just plain fun. Some was technically masterful. Peggi Batcheck’s watercolors and Richard Clem’s “Placid Waters” come to mind. Other work resulted from creative risk taking and imaginative wondering. Some work was lovely visually, for example Paul Graham’s photo “Plant Study” and Connie Layne’ watercolor “Spring Offering” and other work were more conceptual.

I applaud the inclusive spirit, the energy, and the diversity this work represents. I appreciate the courage required to expose one’s work for review and I realize from personal experience that this juror’s aesthetic is one among many. Said Juror, Gretchen Stevens Cochran
