Workshop Demo #2 / Oil on
board / 9" x 12" / Sold
If you
are a painter who is
frustrated with how your
paintings are turning out,
want to take your paintings
"further" (to a new level of
completion and satisfaction
for you), or aren't really
sure of what you should be
doing next, then these
classes are designed
especially for you! Topics
to be covered include Art
As Drama (Planning Your
Painting), Color Mixing
with a Limited Palette,
Composition,
Values/Light and Shadow,
Edges, and a
Studio/Plein Aire
session. Participants will
work on whatever subject
matter they choose, not
everyone painting from the
same reference material. We
will be here to help you,
not dictate what you will
paint, and want you to be
passionate about what you
choose to develop. No
homework is assigned, but we
welcome you to bring
projects you are perfecting
at home for evaluation and
encouragement.
We are
also offering to teach a
popular class for those
who've done little or no art
in the past, but would like
to learn the process.
Entitled "How
to Start Making Art,"
this class will begin with
the very basics of drawing
what you see with a pencil
(and we don't want any
straight lines with a ruler,
so you can drop that excuse
right now!) and develop your
skills and confidence
through colored pencil and
on into watercolors in just
six short weeks! If that
describes you, or someone
you think might be
interested, please let me
know.
If you
don't know me, I'm a
life-long artist who has
been self-taught with the
help of lots of reading,
workshops and classes, and
one who understands the
difficulties of the awkward
"learning curve" we all
encounter in trying to grow
into "fine artists." Along
the way, I've managed to win
a bit of acclaim and a few
awards. My wife tells me
that good teachers are those
who had to struggle to learn
their subject themselves. I
certainly qualify! Our
classes are full of
positive reinforcement
mixed with suggestions and
advice on how to strengthen
your painted "statement,"
with either hands-on help on
your project, or a
demonstration to help you
"get it." Each class will
include an opportunity for
you to bring in work for
supportive critiques and
tips as means to pass on
some of my accumulated
knowledge and experience.
"Whispering Rapids" / Oil
on canvas on board /
12" x 16"
In considering previous
sessions, one of the ongoing
shortcomings was the length
of the class itself, and the
length of the series of
classes. We've decided to
try a slightly different
approach with classes
lasting
2˝
hours (instead of 2) and
running for 6
weeks
(instead of 8). On occasion
(like every week?) the
discussion and demos at the
beginning of the class time
run longer than anticipated
and we end up short of time
for participants to work on
their projects. Those of
you who have attended one of
my classes before know that
we usually start early and
run late, so in effect,
there will be 3 hours of
instruction each week. That
will result in around 18
hours of class time, and
hopefully lead to fewer
schedule conflicts than an 8
week schedule. Starting on
September 13 (with a
probable break for one week
for surgery), we will make
available a number of
potential options for times
hopefully convenient to your
schedule. Time slots
available are:
Monday mornings, 9:30 a.m.
to 12 Noon
Monday afternoons, 1:30 p.m.
to 4 p.m.
Monday evenings, 6 p.m. to
8:30 p.m.
Tuesday mornings, 9:30
a.m. to 12 Noon
Tuesday afternoons, 1:30
p.m. to 4 p.m.
Wednesday evenings, 6
p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Saturday
afternoons, 1:30 p.m. to
4 p.m. (not yet
confirmed, but possible)
We'll be painting at
Christian Community
Church North, 5586
Olentangy River Road,
just south of SR 161 in
Columbus. Cost for the
6 weeks: $200.
So, here's how it works.
We'll need 6
participants to confirm
a class. Phone or email
us with with your
interest to register for
any class time that
might work for you. When
we have enough folks to
put together for a class
in a given time slot,
we'll notify all those
involved. I realize the
time I've given you to
register is relatively
short, and apologize,
but we are facing knee
replacement surgery for
my wife in the next
month, and have had to
wait for doctor and
hospital schedules to be
confirmed. We'll do our
best to group folks into
classes and keep
everyone (hopefully)
happy. Please contact
me with any questions or
issues at
(614) 451-9423,
(614) 439-0917
(cell), or at mailto:jgloverart@mac.com.
Looking forward to
meeting you at our first
class, and having a
great time growing
together as artists!
Thanks for your
interest!
